Every nine and a half minutes, someone in the United States becomes infected with HIV.
One in five of those people living with HIV is unaware of his or her infection.
Latinos account for 17 -19% of all new HIV infections in the U.S.
We have come a long way in the past thirty years. Medical advances have largely changed HIV from a death sentence to a chronic manageable condition. But the HIV/AIDS epidemic is far from over. What can be done at the policy and community level to change the statistic and reduce the number of new HIV cases among Latinos residing in the U.S and Puerto Rico?
Don't miss HITN's Destination Casa Blanca tonight where host Ray Suarez and guest panelists Daniel Montoya from the National Minority AIDS Council, Mary Beth Levin from the Georgetown School of Medicine, Francisco Ruiz from the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, and Liliana Rañón from LULAC will discuss:
- Why the youth is not as HIV aware as they should be
- The stigma of condom use among the Latino culture
- The challenges to access retro-viral drugs in the U.S.
- The high spread of HIV cases in the island of Puerto Rico
